Hairspray passed the coveted $100 million mark this weekend when it grossed $4,270,000 for $100,573,000 in five weeks. The movie is still showing 2,389 theaters and is continuing to be a big success for New Line Cinema.
This is Amanda's second movie to hit the $100 million dollar mark (after Robots, which made $128 million) and first live action film to do so.
Hairspray cost $74 million to make and is currently the #7 film at the box office after over a month of release.
It is currently the 18th highest grossing film of 2007 as well.
This is one of the best reviewed and more successful films of the summer since many have underperformed and recieved less than stellar reviews.
Congratulations to the cast, crew, and studio on making a great movie!
